This is the source mentioned in the Tales and Legends
article that takes us back through colonial governors, English
noblemen, and that obscure fellow named Fuko Howard of Wiggenhall.
You see, in my early research I came across a Sizemore genealogy
that made the fatal mistake that's so easy to make: a relationship
was assumed that couldn't be proven. All it takes is one
'imposter' in a tree to make everyone who came before suspect.
In the case of this tree the pivotal person was one Samuel Howard.
Samuel was the father of Adrian Howard, who was the father of
John Jefferson Howard, who was the father of Lucy Jane Howard,
who married Elihu Morgan. Elihu and Lucy's son was Albert Morgan,
father of my grandmother Phronie! That much is certain. Now, I have many records
on Samuel Howard including his revolutionary war pension records,
court records for his death, et cetera. We know for a fact that
Samuel Howards wife's name was Chloe, but the problem is there
are two Chloe's that could possibly be the Chloe:
Chloe Anglin and Chloe Osbourne. If you assume that Chloe Osbourne
is the Chloe, you'll soon get to the John Howard at the
root of the tree included on this page, and then all the way back
to several Dukes of Norfolk, Catherine of Aragorn, and finally to Fuko. On the other hand,
if you assume that Chloe Anglin was his wife you won't get as
far, or reach quite so glorious a conclusion. At the end of the
day, the greatest number of records, and the most dependable one
I could find, link the Anglin woman to Samuel. However, even then
it's not a certainty - it's only the best conclusion
of the two. Isn't genealogy fun?! Perhaps it just that some people
would rather believe a great story than know the truth. I think
the truth is more interesting.
But wait! The fun isn't over yet. Click here to see the "Sixty Generations To Babylon" page that takes us back to 590
B.C.!! If you count down the list to person number 14, you'll
see the same Howard family as above.
